I need to leave my current company basically immediately because the new job start date is in two weeks and my notice period is 2 months. My current employer is being difficult about early release.
In most cases in Pakistan, companies threaten but do not actually sue for notice period violations, it is expensive and slow litigation for them. What they will do is withhold your final settlement, provident fund contribution from their side, and experience letter. That last one matters most. Negotiate directly with your manager, not HR, and offer to pay one month salary in lieu of notice, which is often written into contracts anyway. Get your experience letter and relieving letter in writing before your last day regardless. If the company is holding your provident fund illegally beyond 30 days after resignation, that is an EOBI and labor court matter where you actually have strong standing.
I did this at a large FMCG company two years ago. They kept my one month salary as penalty per my contract and that was the end of it. The key thing I learned: back up all your work emails, performance reviews, and any written commendations to your personal email before you resign because they will cut your access same day. Also ask your new employer if they can adjust your start date by even one week, many MNCs in Pakistan are flexible if you explain the situation honestly at the offer stage, much easier than fighting your old company.
