I created my Fiverr profile two months ago and still haven’t received a single order. I’m starting to wonder if freelancing is even worth it.
My first Fiverr order took almost three months. At first I thought the platform was saturated and impossible to succeed on. Looking back, my gigs were terrible. The titles were generic, my portfolio was weak, and my descriptions sounded like everyone else’s. I spent time studying successful sellers in my category and completely rebuilt my profile. I also created better samples and improved my gig images. The first order was only $20, but that review changed everything. Within a few months I was getting regular inquiries. If you’re struggling, don’t assume the platform is the problem. Review your profile honestly and look for areas where you can stand out.
Treat Fiverr like a marketplace rather than a magic solution. Buyers compare dozens of sellers before making a decision. Make sure your profile photo looks professional, your portfolio demonstrates actual skill, and your gig focuses on a specific problem. Narrow services often perform better than broad ones. Instead of ‘Graphic Design,’ try something more specific like ‘Restaurant Menu Design’ or ‘YouTube Thumbnail Design.’
Not everyone succeeds on Fiverr, and that’s okay. Some freelancers do better through direct outreach, LinkedIn, Upwork, or local clients. If Fiverr isn’t working after several months of consistent improvement, don’t be afraid to explore other channels. The goal is to find clients, not to become loyal to a platform.
